Midway between the coast and the closest ski areas in the Southern Alps lies Fayence, one of the eight magnificent hilltop villages in the Var. Originally a fortified town, Fayence has maintained the charm of its medieval origins. It is surrounded by picturesque views over the forests and fields. Explores the village's winding streets,visit the Four du Mitan, one of the region's largest village bread ovens built in 1522, which has been restored and is found in the building just beside the present day museum. Fayence offers visitors a selection of fine restaurants, shops and galleries. 

Just a few minutes south of the village is a an airfield, which is a major sailplane (gliders) center. Founded in 1935, the gliding club, AAPCA  is considered one of Europe's finest. Take a class to learn how to fly or simply spend an hour gliding over the countryside with one of the club's experienced pilots. Close to Fayence: Beaches; 30 minutes, ski areas; 45 minutes, the Lake St Cassien; 15 minutes, Golf de Terre Blanche 10 minutes
